Why is my stereo distorting the sound?

I have a six channel impedance balancer that i can hear vibration in and it causes some distortion. Happens mostly or exclusively with CDs. Volume of the stereo nor specific speaker channel is very high either for it to happen. What could it be? CD play is first generation Pioneer.
